Old Melbourne Gaol

Russell Street, home to Australia's oldest prison, the historic Magistrates' Court, and the historic Police City Watch House, has been a symbol of Melbourne's crime, law, and social order since the 1840s. Located on Russell Street, Old Melbourne Gaol was the prison that held and executed Australian criminals in the 19th century.

Most 19th-century criminals, such as the famous villain Ned Kelly and the notorious gangster Squizzy Taylor, spent the rest of their lives in this Old Melbourne Gaol. The Old Melbourne Gaol experience will take you through the past, present, and future of crime and justice in Australia.
