Melbourne International Coffee Expo 2014
In Melbourne, coffee seemed to have become an essential part of life.
Who was the first Korean to drink coffee? Did you know that Emperor Gojong was the first Korean coffee enthusiast? After the Eulmi Incident, he left the royal palace for Agwanpacheon, stayed at the Russian legation, and drank coffee, and later returned to Gyeongungung to drink coffee again. During this time, he gifted coffee to a close official, who didn't know how to drink it and ended up mixing coffee into the soup. Since it was a soup favored by Westerners, it was called 'yangtang-guk'—a funny story.
Through trade and various exchanges, people all over the world now enjoy drinking coffee. Now, even in Korea, people can taste coffee from other countries. However, even if you drink coffee, it's natural that you can't match the atmosphere of eating coffee directly in that country. Many visitors to Melbourne are captivated by the aroma of Melbourne's coffee. The cafes that exude Melbourne's unique atmosphere and the taste of barista's coffee blend so well that there's no better country to drink coffee than this.

Melbourne, known as a paradise for cafes, is once again hosting the Coffee Expo this year. On the 16th, Melbourne Sky was invited to MICE (short for Melbourne International Coffee Expo) and participated in this once-a-year global event.

These coffee-related companies and shops each created a uniquely different atmosphere. There were so many booths that people said, 'Because it's Melbourne,' that people said. Some booths looked like cafes, others like converted camper vans, and although the various and unique shops gathered together seemed cluttered, these shops formed a single exhibition hall, giving the impression of being inside a building filled with cafes.

This expo event lasted for four days, with the expo held over four days, and World Latte Art, World Cup Taster, and World Coffee in Good Spirits held on Saturday and Sunday. In 2013, winners emerged in each category, and the first Korean to proudly win the World Latte Art event. This year, as many participants competed, the atmosphere was tense as everyone watched as they wondered who would win.

Moving from Building 7 to 8 and entering the competition venue, the baristas on the large electronic board looked quite serious, and every single one of them was professional. Anyone who has made coffee at least once knows how difficult it is to create art through this coffee. Moreover, the coffee tastes so good, making it an exceptional skill that just anyone can do.
The four-day Coffee Expo was held here, providing a valuable opportunity to learn about the coffee industry and aspects of coffee that we hadn't known before. Although they looked similar, there were things that were completely different, and we were once again amazed to discover these fascinating devices that make coffee. It seemed that this place was the reason we always enjoyed better things when visiting cafes to drink coffee. I think it's because of those who have contributed and worked hard to the coffee industry, as well as the world-class baristas who are professional and passionate.
